What's in a name?

Originally, ADC Tower was titled Ashura's Dungeon. I to this day don't know why I had named it that, as it was about 6 years ago when I first started work on making a website of my own.

However, with some prompting, I had realized that I needed to change the title of the website, as Ashura's Dungeon not only gave the wrong idea of the site - dungeon's are typically dark, no? - but it was also an old, worn out title. It no longer fit the site. It needed a new name, and fast.

Thus, my search for a name started. I thought of many - Ethereal Darkness, Hidden Identity, Hidden Cafe, and Enchanted Towers being a few of them - over the course of a few days time. As much as I liked them, they really weren't clicking with me. I kept Ashura's Dungeon as it was.

Then it struck me that I should name it something that would connect it to Crystalline Forest, the forum I own. It was then I started calling it Ashura's Dungeon*Crystalline Tower during the making of Version 9, and even had that title on the layout while I built the site up again. During those long hours of looking at the site, I realized that it was assinine giving it a name like that. What site honestly has two titles? As much as I liked Ashura's Dungeon, it needed to go.

So, another idea hit me. Rather then having to get rid of the old title completely, I decided to combine them, making it into ADC Tower - Ashura's Dungeon, Crystalline Tower.

What stages did the site go through?

It was in 2000 that Ashura's Dungeon was in it's first stages of being created. At the time it's construction was done in WebExpress, the only program at my disposal that would do most of the work for me; I had no knowledge of HTML at the time. I had originally made the site with a Harry Potter theme, with my fan fictions and whatever I happened to draw or find that I liked being thrown into the site for content. It went through several stages of being built, deleted, then rebuilt again until it finally became what I wanted it to be. By that time, 2002, most of the images had been deleted except for the icons I used for each of the sections. I had given each one a 'fancy' name like Library, Hogwarts Express, so on and so forth.

It was all thanks to a note left by "Shinku" in regards to the non-existent layout that sent me in search of one. The very first layout for Ashura's Dungeon had been of Luna, from the PlayStation game Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete; unfortunately it did not last long as it gave little room for my work and was better suited for a blog of some sort. I searched for a new layout, finding a darker one of an unknown girl to put on the site. It was also around this time of evolution that I started adding my dolls to the site, as my dolling website Aquaria Towers was failing and I was shutting it down.

The second layout also didn't last long, and I realized it had come to the point that I would need to make my own layout if I were to have one that I both liked and would actually keep for a long span of time. That was when the first version of Ashura's Dungeon came out; Version One: Lucia of LEB was born. The subsections such as My Profile and such were put into bigger sections like Fan fiction, Fan art, Dolls, Me, You, Site, and Other. My first three contests were also held, but where promptly cancelled due to lack of entries.

More of my dolls were added, but the fan fiction and fan art sections stayed basically the same size except for the addition of a few pieces here and there. It was also around this time that the tag board was added. It was soon after that AD was moved to Freewebs from it's original host of AngelFire.

It was by that October that I realized that the site was approaching it's first birthday since it had been put on the Internet from it's safe home on the computer; of course, I had to do something special for the occasion. I started work on the new layout, and started a Mascot Contest. The mascot, Xara, had won both second and to be the mascot. It was only days before November 11th that the layout was finished along with the coding, and was put up on November 10th for viewing.

It was soon after that when a new layout was made using tables and iframes, Midnight Lovers. After that came another layout, Pull of Gravitation, featuring Eiri Yuki and Shuichi Shindou, and new pages were added and moved about once again. It was in 2004 that the site gained three sisters, Alanna, Sera, and Elemental Girl.

In 2005, a new mascot was created, Ilona. A new layout was made while the site was under Hiatus in February of 2005. The layout was then changed again later in the year.

The site was moved from domainDLX to theplotninjas.com when the site was barely running in January of 2007. In October of 2007, the hit counter was taken down, with it numbering at 34, 949.

Version 9 was created in February of 2008, with the site title changing from Ashura's Dungeon to ADC Tower, and the address changing from http://ashura.theplotninjas.com/AD to having the "AD" taken off the end.

Past Layouts

Version 1: Lucia of LEB
This was the first layout I had ever made. I had ran through a good three or four premades before deciding to make this one, using a tutorial I had found way back then.
Version 2: One Year Old 11/11
This was the layout I had created to celebrate Ashura's Dungeon's second birthday. Clockwise, the dolls are as follows: My muse at the time, Ginny from Harry Potter, a series of dolls for Shadow League, Ash and May for Shadow League, the site mascot of the time from the contest.

Version 3: Midnight Lovers
The third layout, it had been made using an anime image I'd found of a guy and girl laying outside at night, looking at the stars.
Version 4: Pull of Gravitation
A Gravitation layout I made when I was at the height of my Gravitation fanism. I'm actually still somewhat fond of it, even though it was really quite a bright layout.
Version 5: Computer Screen
This has been my first, almost purely pixelated layout. It was of my monitor at the time, with the Kenshin picture taped to the corner and the name plate on the top.

Version 6: Resting in the Grass
I'm actually really sad that I didn't remember to get the screenshot of this particular layout, as this was yet another I was quite fond of. It had been of Ash and May laying together in the grass from in League Team.
Version 7: Faysal's Lab
This was the third pixel layout I did. This one was of Ashura and Faysal in his lab, having a...session, of sorts. I actually quite liked the navigation system, though it was glitchy due to my poor coding abilities.
Version 8: The Not-So-Dark Ocean
This one was actually one I'm happy to say turned out well. It didn't have many coding issues, and most people seemed to like this one. It did get changed a few times over as time went on, but overall this was it.
